BVI FinTech Training Programme

Programme Overview

The Caribbean FinTech Certificate Programme is a collaborative project of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Robert Mathavious Institute for Financial Services, KBC Global Partners and BVI Finance. It is designed to nurture the FinTech ecosystem in the BVI and the region by developing a cadre of certified FinTech professionals. Students who enroll in the programme will complete a “coursework phase” that features intensive courses on the fundamentals of FinTech and business and related programming concepts, and a “project phase” that involves the practical implementation of a FinTech project in a local partnering firm or government body.

Programme Objectives

The objectives of the BVI FinTech Training Programme are as follows:
  • Provide hands-on experience with emerging technologies: Digital Assets, RegTech, Data Analytics and Automation;
  • Practice their skills with actual project deliverables at government and businesses;
  • Become contributing members to the FinTech ecosystem of the BVI and the region;
  • Prepare for a career in FinTech or to diversify their vocational portfolio;
  • Provide partnering organizations access to Fintech resources;
  • Develop a regional cadre of certified FinTech professionals;
  • Deliver innovation in companies, government and new startups;
  • Provide technically competent participants additional course opportunities to go deeper;
  • Engage BVI HLSCC instructors in collaboration on the course.

Programme Features

  • Hands-on experience with emerging technologies: Digital Assets, RegTech, Data Analytics and Automation;
  • FinTech concepts and cases with introduction to Design Thinking;
  • Leveraging Generative AI (OpenAI ChatGPT), Blockchain, and Cloud to solve business problems
  • Actionable Intelligence for Business: Microsoft Power BI;
  • Cybersecurity and privacy policies: Balancing privacy with delighting customers;
  • Capstone Project to solve a business problem using Generative AI (OpenAI ChatGPT), RPA, Data Storytelling, or Blockchain;
  • Opportunities to become contributing members to the FinTech ecosystem of the BVI and the region;

Course Structure

Coursework Phase: 5 weeks of intensive bi-weekly instruction delivered remotely via Zoom. Sessions may be up to two hours in duration and will take place between 7pm and 9pm.

Project Phase: 1 month of supervised practical work toward the development of a FinTech project for a local firm, or on a project assigned by instructors.

Delivery and Instruction Methods

The programme and courses will be delivered by means of lectures and PowerPoint presentations, case studies, course notes, selected readings, and practical assignments.
