RMI receives ACCA accreditation

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Robert Mathavious Institute for Financial Services is now accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) – the world’s leading body for professional accountants. The institute was last week awarded Silver Approved Learning Partner Status by the ACCA. The newly approved accreditation means that residents of the British Virgin Islands can now receive quality training in accountancy and pursue the professional ACCA qualification through the RMI.

The Robert Mathavious Institute for Financial Services, the RMI, is the only professional qualification centre in the British Virgin Islands.

Offering professional programmes since 2002, The Robert Mathavious Institute is a centre of excellence in education and training in the financial services industry. Over the years, the RMI has conducted courses in individual subjects examined by professional organisations such as International Compliance Association, CGI - The Governance Institute, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

The RMI presents programs relevant to the financial services industry, delivered by distinguished local, regional and international faculty, with the ability to respond swiftly to regulatory, market and other financial services industry trends.

The RMI is an ACCA Approved Learning Partner - Silver as well as an ACCA Approved CBE centre. The Robert Mathavious Institute is an CGI Registered Tuition Provider.

History

The Robert Mathavious Institute was launched on 9th October 2002 at the second HLSCC Caribbean Practical Due Diligence Symposium. The first Co-Directors were Samuel Lohman, a Geneva-based lawyer, and Dr. Michael O'Neal, the Vice President of HLSCC.

Payment Plans

To help you meet the fees for your chosen career, we offer payment plans to help you to budget and spread the costs of your course.

Payments are typically split into 2 or 3 instalments, exact amounts and dates are dependent on the course itself.

Payment plans are detailed on the relevant registration form for each programme.

In order to take out a payment plan, you must enter into a payment plan agreement for your chosen course. This can be discussed with you at the RMI offices upon enrolment. General terms and conditions can be found below.

Financial Services Institute (RMI) offers Payment Plans for selected programmes which are available for enrolment during the registration period. The Payment Plan includes tuition and institute fees ONLY. There is no payment plan for registration fees (where applicable). All fees are due upon registration. In order to enter into a payment plan, students must agree to the following terms and conditions:

By enrolling in this Tuition Payment Plan, I agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • I must enroll in the plan by the last day of the regular registration period.
  • I am responsible for paying each of the instalments on time even if I do not receive a reminder notice.
  • I understand that payment in full for each instalment plus any other billed charges must be received by the payment deadline to avoid a $50 late payment charge.
  • I understand that one missed payment will result in cancellation of the plan. Remaining tuition will be due immediately and services will be subject to cancellation for nonpayment.
  • I understand that checks returned for non-payment will result in a $50 service charge. In addition, I understand that two dishonoured checks will result in future ineligibility for the plan.
  • I understand that should it become necessary for RMI to retain an attorney or collection agency to secure payment of any amount due, I will be responsible for all collection costs and legal fees.
  • I understand that I am not entitled to a refund for any tuition payments made after the first week of class.

Derry Hodge, MICA, FCG, PHD is a former professor and Dean of Workforce Training, and has over 17 years of experience in academic and professional education. With an interdisciplinary background, he holds degrees in theology, finance and international business, and a professional diploma in governance, risk, and compliance with distinction. He is a member of the member of the International Compliance Association, and a fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute. His current role at the RMI involves strategic development and quality assurance of professional courses and training programmes tailored for the financial services industry of the BVI.

Davinia completed a degree in Financial and Business Economics at Royal Holloway, University of London before joining the accountancy field. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) working in Audit Practice and Corporate Finance with Mazars LLP in Brighton, UK. She then joined BPP Professional Education as a tutor in their London office in 2008 teaching Audit and Financial Reporting papers.

She has taught students from across the world online and in classrooms across the globe. She has a passion for teaching excellence and has supported the success of several global prizewinners in the ACCA examinations.

Rose Chapman is a Compliance and Anti-corruption professional with over 20 years’ experience in international corporate environments, including Australia Mutual Provident, General Electric, Travelport and Willis Towers Watson, where Rose held Financial Conduct Authority Controlled Functions of Compliance Officer (CF10) and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (CF11). Rose gained a reputation for developing compliance and anti-money laundering systems and controls by evolution rather than revolution, including training programs to keep personnel at all levels ahead of the curve on regulatory change.

Rose’s book: “Anti-money Laundering, a Practical Guide to Reducing Organisational Risk” was published in London and New York by Kogan Page on 3 May 2018. © Rose Chapman, 2018 Rose achieved a Masters of Law Distinction in International Corporate Governance, Financial Regulation and Economic Law at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London in 2012.

Rose has also earned Distinctions in 2 Post Graduate Diplomas, Anti-Money Laundering Financial Crime, and Financial Services Regulatory Compliance from the International Compliance Association (ICA). Rose has lectured for the ICA for a decade, with greater activity now that she is Principal Tutor and Compliance and AML Program Manager for the Robert Mathavious Institute of the British Virgin Islands.
